What's In Your Favorite Candle?
Two of the most commonly used candle waxes:
Soy Wax + Paraffin Wax.
Here at Wishes Candle Co, we have been using an all natural soy wax since our business opening in 2016. When designing our product, the most important + above all else quality of our product was bringing the safest possible option to our consumers. After all, a candle is emitting into the air of your home.
Do you know what is being used in your most favorite candles? Be weary of labels that read "Soy Blend" - keyword is blend here because there are some waxes that are the combination of soy + paraffin which allows for the label to read "Soy Blend" but ultimately still contains paraffin.
Here are some of the factors that I concerned when designing our candles and why an all natural soy wax was the obvious choice for the benefit of our customers:
1. Composition:
Soy Wax: Made from natural soybean oil. Does not release harmful byproducts or pollutants when burned, making it a healthier choice for indoor air quality.
Paraffin Wax: Derived from petroleum, a fossil fuel. Can potentially emit harmful chemicals, such as benzene and toluene, which may cause respiratory irritation and other health concerns.
2. Soot Production:
Soy Wax: Soy wax, on the other hand, burns cleaner and produces minimal soot (any soot released is generally from the wick), reducing the risk of indoor air pollution and respiratory issues.
Paraffin Wax: Can produce black soot that can stain walls, furniture, and fabrics. This soot is not only unsightly but can also contain harmful particles that can be inhaled.
3. Allergens:
Soy Wax: Generally considered hypoallergenic, making it suitable for individuals with allergies or asthma. Those that cannot enjoy soy wax are those with direct soy allergies.
Paraffin Wax: Some individuals may have sensitivities or allergies to certain chemicals or pollutants commonly found in paraffin wax candles. Again, raising issue for those with allergies and asthma
4. Renewable and Sustainable:
